Kopan started from a vision of Lama Yeshe in 1969. Looking at the Kopan hill from his room in Boudha he thought that this would be a great place for a monastery. Read more about our history.
Kopan Monastery provides a safe haven for young people wishing to follow in the footsteps of the buddha. It provides schooling, monastic education, food and accommodation for free to all the monks and nuns.
