Opening the Heart: Compassion in Everyday Life 11th Aug - 16th Aug (5 days)

Opening the Heart : Compassion in everyday life

11th - 16th August 2024

5 days course

When we are motivated by compassion and wisdom, the results of our actions benefit everyone, not just our individual selves or some immediate convenience. When we are able to recognize and forgive ignorant actions of the past, we gain strength to constructively solve the problems of the present.

His Holiness 14th Dalai Lama

How to develop more compassion and love for others

As we read or watch the news, it is only too evident that what the world needs is more kindness, more compassion, and more tolerance to counter the rise of fear and violence towards others. But how will “the world” develop these qualities if those of us who make up this world don’t play our part?

Buddhism encourages each one of us to take responsibility for cultivating inner peace and in this way influence our communities. How do we do this? By working on understanding our habitual ways of thinking and reacting, and working to replace our bad “mental habits” with kinder and wiser ones.

In this course, we will look at the harmful states of mind, such as selfishness and anger, which prevent us from becoming more caring and compassionate, we will discuss, practice meditations & other techniques to learn how to open our hearts and embody compassion in our lives and in all our actions.
