Geshe Lhundrup

Our beloved Guru, and spiritual friend, Khensur Rinpoche Geshe Lama Lhundrup, passed away Wednesday 7 September, at 11.10 pm, on the auspicious day 10th day of the Tibetan calendar.

He will be missed by all of us here at Kopan Monastery and Nunnery, and by his numerous students all over the world that received his untiring advice and guidance over the past 40 years.

At the time of the passing, Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche was presiding at the Lama Choepa at that time, and He announced the passing to the assembled Sangha community. The monks performed extensive Medicine Buddha puja immediately after the announcement. The Extensive Medicine Buddha Puja is performed daily at the monastery during the 49 day period. At the nunnery, the Golden Light sutra isbe recited three times every day. Yamantaka and Vajrayogini self initiation are performed daily till the time of cremation. The cremation was held on the 13th September at 3:30pm Nepal time.

Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche advised the sangha community to do the Guru Shakyamuni prayer seven times every day, and to recite 100,000 Shakyamuni mantras. FPMT centers, projects and services have been advised to perform extensive Medicine Buddha Puja. All students are invited to join these prayers as much as they can.

Please pray for holy wishes of Lama Lhundrup to be fulfilled without obstacles, and for the unmistaken incarnation to return soon and continue the beneficial work for all sentient beings.

Update - 8thJanuary

On December 12 the gound was blessed by Jangtse Choje Khensru Losang Tenzin for the first of the stupas to be built. lama Zopa Rinpoche emphasized how important it was to built at least one stupa for the incarnation to return as quickly as possible.
After having checked the direction of the stupa, a deity is drawn on the base and ceremonies are performed to remove all obstacles to the success of the building.
The stupa will be located near the stupa for Geshe Lama Konchok, in the Buddha garden.
We were very fortunate to have Jangtse Choje performing this consecration with the assistance of the Kopan tantric monks and geshes.
It was a very moving and at the same time happy occasion.
